Demands for Action Mount After Fatal Crash at Cotswolds Blackspot

A tragic collision on the A433 Tetbury Road near Cirencester has reignited urgent calls for safety measures on a notorious accident blackspot. The road was closed for over 10 hours on Sunday, May 17, after a single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a motorcyclist in his 60s at the scene.

In response, George Collins, chairman of Kemble and Ewen Parish Council, expressed deep concern over the persistent dangers on this stretch of road. “The death near Thames Head Inn is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks here,” he said. “This part of the A433 features two hazardous crossroads and a narrow bridge at Thameshead, with several fatalities and serious injuries in recent years.”

Despite repeated appeals from the parish council and local residents to Gloucester Highways, significant safety improvements have yet to be implemented. Collins emphasized the need for comprehensive action across the entire stretch to prevent further tragedies.

The road has a troubling history of fatal accidents, including the October 2024 death of motorcyclist Tony Stepp in a collision involving his Honda and an Audi A4. Additionally, in September 2017, a 19-year-old student was fatally struck by a car on the same road.

Gloucestershire Police are urging witnesses to come forward with any information or dashcam footage related to Sunday’s fatal incident. Those with relevant details can contact authorities through the official online reporting form, quoting occurrence number 53260036414.
