Gloucester City Council is set to decide on a planning application concerning the renovation and conversion of two former shops and a residence at 109 and 111 Westgate Street into residential flats. The scheme focuses on the redevelopment of these historic structures, which are part of a grade-II listed building, originally refurbished and refronted in the 19th century. Today, only the façade and upper storeys remain intact.
The proposal includes a full renovation of No. 109, the addition of a rear extension, and the creation of five new flats. Both buildings are slated to receive new roofs, with No. 109 also to gain a modernized frontage.
Consultants supporting the project emphasize that the change of use, extension, and refurbishment align well with preserving the heritage while providing sustainable new housing. They state that the benefits to the community and housing supply outweigh any potential negative impact.

“The proposal enhances the wider street setting without causing harm to the local heritage assets or the character of the area,” the consultants affirm.
A final decision on the planning application is expected from Gloucester City Council later this month.
