David Beckham Shows Humble Side Amid Knighthood Congratulations

David Beckham charmed those covering the Club World Cup with a modest and friendly exchange during the tournament’s opening match. Sky Sports presenter Alex Aljoe, reporting for DAZN, shared a memorable interaction on the show The Rest Is Football, alongside Micah Richards, Gary Lineker, and Alan Shearer.

Aljoe recalled approaching Beckham—who had just been knighted—and congratulating him on his new title. She asked if he remembered her from a previous interview during his Real Madrid days. Beckham responded with a polite “Yes,” though Richards quickly joked it was likely a white lie. “He was lying. He was definitely lying,” Richards laughed, prompting Lineker to quip, “Knights don’t lie, Alex. Knights of the realm do not lie!” The banter highlighted Beckham’s reputation for being down-to-earth despite his global fame.

Richards offered to message Beckham on Aljoe’s behalf, causing Shearer to burst into laughter with a playful insult at Richards’ eager offer. This amusing moment underscored Beckham’s humility and kind nature.

Recently knighted in King Charles’ Birthday Honours, Beckham expressed deep appreciation for the accolade, describing it as a “truly humbling and emotional moment.” Reflecting on his roots in East London, he said, “Growing up with parents and grandparents proud to be British, I never imagined receiving such an honour. To have captained my country was the greatest privilege and a boyhood dream come true.” Beckham also showed gratitude for his career and the fulfilment it brings.

Now, his attention turns to leading Inter Miami in their upcoming match against Porto, while former club Real Madrid prepares to face Al-Hilal in their opening fixture.
