Dangerous Sex Offender Imprisoned for Breaching Restraining Order

Gloucestershire authorities have sentenced Glenn Richards, a 48-year-old sex offender from Wotton-Under-Edge, to prison for violating a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and breaching a restraining order designed to protect a vulnerable woman.

At Gloucester Crown Court on July 3, Richards admitted to five separate breaches of his SHPO, along with an additional breach of a restraining order. Evidence revealed Richards used multiple electronic devices to access social media and chat rooms, contravening his court-imposed restrictions.

Using these platforms, he groomed and contacted vulnerable females, including minors, further demonstrating his disregard for the law. One notable breach involved communicating with a vulnerable woman via WhatsApp messages and video calls, despite legal prohibitions.

In a heartfelt victim impact statement, the woman described the profound emotional damage inflicted by Richards’ manipulative actions. She recounted how he earned her trust only to exploit it, leaving her with lasting feelings of fear, anxiety, and vulnerability.

Judge Lawrie KC sentenced Richards to four and a half years in prison for the SHPO breaches, plus a consecutive 12-month term for violating the restraining order, totaling five and a half years behind bars.

Detective Superintendent Sue Fereday, head of Gloucestershire Constabulary’s public protection division, emphasized: “Richards is a dangerous and manipulative predator who flagrantly ignored court orders designed to protect our most vulnerable. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the MOSOVO team, justice has been served, and the community is safer as a result.”
