Dangerous Predator Sentenced to Five and a Half Years for Restraining Order Breach

Glenn Richards, a 48-year-old sex offender from Wotton-Under-Edge, Gloucestershire, has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and a restraining order involving a vulnerable woman.

During the hearing at Gloucester Crown Court on July 3, Richards admitted to five breaches of the SHPO and one breach of the restraining order. Despite restrictions, Richards used multiple devices to access social media platforms and chat rooms, deliberately contacting and grooming vulnerable females, including minors. His communication with a vulnerable woman through WhatsApp messages and videos directly violated the restraining order.

In a poignant victim impact statement read to the court, the woman described the profound emotional harm Richards inflicted. She revealed how his manipulation led her to trust him, only to be exploited, causing ongoing fear, anxiety, and unease. “For a time, Glenn was the only person I could trust when I was upset or needed help,” she said, highlighting the deep psychological damage caused by his grooming.

Judge Lawrie KC sentenced Richards to four and a half years for the SHPO breaches and an additional 12 months for the restraining order violation, to be served consecutively.

Detective Superintendent Sue Fereday, head of public protection at Gloucestershire Constabulary, condemned Richards as a dangerous and manipulative predator. She emphasized the police’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and enforcing court orders. The dedicated Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) team played a key role in the investigation that led to Richards’ conviction.

Richards' imprisonment sends a clear message that the legal system will hold offenders accountable and prioritize the safety of vulnerable members of the community.
