On May 25, Bank Holiday Monday, the UK experienced an unusual heatwave with temperatures soaring above 30°C in several regions, including Gloucestershire and the West Country. Naturally, many Brits headed to their local beaches to bask in the sunshine.
Nick George and his family made the 115-mile journey from Wolverhampton to Weston-Super-Mare, eager to enjoy the warm weather. But upon arrival, Nick was surprised to find the beach remarkably quiet. Capturing his experience on TikTok, he expressed his initial confusion.
“Go to the beach they said. It’ll be fun they said,” he humorously captioned the video. As he moved the camera across the sand, it became clear why the beach lacked the usual crowds.

The tide had gone out, leaving the shoreline covered in thick, ankle-deep mud. While some beachgoers navigated the slippery mud to reach the water, many avoided it entirely. Nick cautiously filmed his steps as he carefully balanced on the muddy surface.
Comments flooded in from viewers familiar with the area, with some joking that Weston-super-Mare was more ‘Weston-super-Mud’ than beach. Locals pointed out that the town’s ‘beach’ is actually an estuary, where rivers meet the sea, often exposing extensive mudflats at low tide.
Despite the muddy conditions, Nick’s family enjoyed their day out. In a follow-up video, he thanked his viewers and rated the trip five out of five, praising the perfect weather and promising to return.
Nick’s experience highlights that not all beaches are sandy paradises—sometimes a mudflat estuary can offer a unique, if unexpected, seaside adventure.
