David Chester, 57, from Bicester, tragically lost his life in a devastating fire at Bicester Motion, a former RAF base, which also claimed the lives of two firefighters, Jennie Logan and Martyn Sadler. His family described him not as a victim, but as a hero who acted selflessly to help others in crisis.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday evening, left two additional firefighters seriously injured and receiving hospital treatment, according to Oxfordshire County Council.
In a heartfelt statement, Mr. Chester’s family shared: “Dave was the most amazing man we will ever know. Loving and caring father, husband, son, and brother, he was Bicester born and bred, known by almost everyone. His quirky sense of humour and warm spirit left a lasting impression on all who met him.”

They added, “Dave worked harder than anyone we knew. He built a thriving business with the support of family and friends, making Bicester Motion a cornerstone of our lives filled with unforgettable memories. He was always the first person people turned to for help.”
On the night of the fire, Mr. Chester noticed firefighters in need of assistance and did not hesitate to step in. “He lived and died by helping others, always putting them first. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit and legacy remain forever in our hearts.”
To honor his memory, a golden plaque has been placed at the entrance of Bicester Motion. The tribute reads: “Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Bicester Motion. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this tragic loss of two firefighters and a member of the public. With love from the Bicester community.”
