Dad Suffers Severe Balcony Fall on Holiday, Now Stranded in Spain

Matty Durbin, a 36-year-old father of two and dedicated football coach from Clutton in the Chew Valley, Somerset, is currently stranded in Spain after suffering a serious fall from a balcony during a holiday last week. The self-employed electrician and mentor to the Clutton Football Club’s under-10s endured fractures to his pelvis and back in four places, leaving him unable to travel back home.

Matty’s close friend, Adam Gould, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to cover the family’s travel expenses while Matty remains in Spain, assist with his eventual repatriation, support his partner, and help purchase necessary mobility aids for his recovery.

Adam highlighted Matty’s commitment to the local community: “Many know Matty as a passionate coach who always gives his time freely to the Clutton U10s and the wider football club. Whether running evening training sessions or cheering on the kids at weekends, he’s a genuine community hero who never asks for anything in return.”

The accident has left Matty facing a long and painful recovery period, compounded by the inability to work and mounting expenses abroad. “This is a tough time for Matty and his family. He’d be mortified to ask for help, but right now, he needs us,” Adam added.

Matty has long been a generous supporter of youth football, often sponsoring team kits and training gear. Adam praised his character: “He’s a fellow coach, a big Bristol City fan, a role model to the kids, and a great bloke. Now it’s our turn to support him.”

The community’s response has been overwhelming, with the GoFundMe campaign raising nearly £6,000 so far. Adam expressed heartfelt gratitude for the generosity and encouragement: “The messages, donations, and kindness from people near and far have given Matty hope and strength during this challenging time. The local football family and wider community have once again shown their incredible spirit.”
