A father from Oxfordshire experienced a heart-stopping moment in the early hours when he glanced at his baby monitor, only to see his baby daughter’s cot completely empty. Thomas Weir shared the unsettling incident that left him terrified until he uncovered the truth.
Parents often rely on baby monitors to keep an eye on their little ones, providing reassurance even when they’re in separate rooms. Recently, Thomas was awoken around 1 a.m. by a strange noise. Curious and concerned, he turned to the monitor, only to find the view of his infant daughter’s cot was baffling — the crib appeared totally vacant.
He posted the monitor footage on TikTok, revealing the empty cot from multiple angles. The clip was captioned, “When you check the monitor at 1:00 a.m. and think your baby has been snatched,” echoing his immediate panic.

His first thought was grim: “Has she fallen out?” But Thomas knew his daughter wasn’t yet mobile enough to crawl or pull herself up, having been born five weeks premature and not quite reaching that milestone. The situation didn’t add up.
He quickly jumped out of bed and rushed into the nursery to check on her. To his immense relief, his daughter suddenly appeared on screen again—this time popping out from a cleverly hidden nook directly under the camera’s blind spot. The faint sound of a little noise preceded her reveal.
The discovery that the baby monitor couldn’t detect that particular area of the cot explained the phantom disappearance, and Thomas was overjoyed she was safe and sound all along.
