Matt Baker, beloved presenter of Countryfile, revealed he had a deeply emotional moment while filming his latest series, Matt Baker’s British Isles, which airs on More4. The 47-year-old TV host takes viewers on a journey across the UK, exploring lesser-known locations steeped in history and culture.
One particularly moving segment was filmed in the Scottish village of Crathie, near Balmoral Castle, where locals have long enjoyed close ties with the Royal Family. Baker shared with TV Times how meeting the royal chaplain, Ken, and hearing about the special service held for the late Queen Elizabeth II profoundly affected him.
“I felt quite emotional hearing about that service,” Baker admitted, reflecting on the enduring connection between the community and the Queen, whose legacy continues to resonate deeply across the British Isles.

The late monarch has been the subject of public reflection recently, with Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson sharing how she senses the Queen’s presence through her corgis. Speaking at the London Creative Women Platform forum, Ferguson described how the Queen’s dogs greet her each morning, their barks seeming like messages from the late monarch herself.
Such intimate glimpses add to the rich tapestry of stories surrounding Queen Elizabeth II. Former royal chef Darren McGrady shared insights into the Queen’s favourite childhood treat – jam pennies, a simple sandwich of bread, butter, and strawberry jam made from Scottish garden berries at Balmoral. Meanwhile, Tom Parker Bowles hinted at her appreciation for distinctive dishes like smoked eel mousse, highlighting the personal tastes behind royal traditions.
As Baker continues to explore the cultural and historic gems of the UK, he will also be returning to BBC One’s Countryfile on Sunday, June 1, at 5:25 pm, bringing more heartfelt stories from the British countryside to audiences nationwide.
