Countryfile’s Adam Henson Updates on Rare Exmoor Pony Foals at Cotswold Farm Park

Adam Henson, the familiar face of BBC One’s Countryfile and a dedicated farmer, has shared an important update from his Cotswold Farm Park following the arrival of two new foals. The 60-year-old runs Bemborough Farm in Gloucestershire, a thriving agricultural enterprise that also serves as a popular visitor attraction.

In the latest Countryfile episode aired on 1 February, Adam focused on the birth of two rare Exmoor pony foals named Roxy and Rosie. With only around 200 foals born annually worldwide and an estimated total population of a few thousand, these ponies are considered precious for conservation.

Adam emphasized the care and protection measures taken to ensure the well-being of the foals. All equines on the farm receive passports within their first year, and Adam invited vet Millie to microchip the new arrivals and collect DNA samples. This process is critical not only for ownership verification but also for confirming the foals’ genetic heritage.

“Microchipping and documenting these ponies isn’t just about regulation,” Adam explained. “It’s essential for the Exmoor Pony Society and for breeding plans that maintain genetic diversity and protect this rare breed.”

The ponies enjoy a life roaming freely on the farm, their natural coats providing warmth and resilience. Adam’s efforts contribute to the ongoing conservation of Exmoor ponies, an initiative he’s passionate about as part of his broader commitment to farming and preserving rare breeds.

Adam’s farming journey is inspired by his late father, Joe Henson, who founded the farm park in 1971 and was a pioneer in rare breed conservation. Beyond his work on the farm and screen, Adam cherishes time with his wife Charlotte and their two adult children, balancing family life with his farming and broadcasting career.

Countryfile continues to showcase the vital work done on UK farms every Sunday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, spotlighting stories like Adam’s that combine heritage, conservation, and rural life.
