Countryfile’s Adam Henson Excited to Welcome Rare Suffolk Punch Foal in 2026

Countryfile presenter Adam Henson has shared his excitement about an extraordinary new arrival expected at his 50-acre Cotswold Farm Park in May 2026. The rare and critically endangered Suffolk Punch mare, Lexy, is pregnant, marking a significant moment for the farm and conservation efforts.

Reflecting on the challenges farmers faced in 2025, including a dry spring, scorching summer, and autumn floods, Adam expressed hopes for milder weather conditions in the year ahead. He highlighted the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, a reality widely acknowledged by the Met Office, and emphasized the crucial role farmers play in developing resilient crops to adapt to climate change.

Despite these challenges, Adam’s focus is on the upcoming birth of Lexy’s foal—a pivotal event, as the Suffolk Punch breed faces severe decline. Once vital for heavy farm work and hauling brewery drays, these majestic chestnut horses now number fewer than 500 worldwide, with just 75 breeding females in the UK, according to the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.

Adam conveyed his primary wish for a smooth, trouble-free birth and a healthy foal, underlining the rarity of this addition to their livestock. The Suffolk Punch’s robust frame can weigh over one tonne, and its survival depends on conservation-minded breeders like those at his farm.

Earlier this year, Adam announced Lexy’s pregnancy, followed by updates shared via YouTube and Instagram. In one notable post, he introduced Alison from Holbeache Stud, the caring expert involved with Suffolk Punch horses. The confirmation of Lexy’s pregnancy and her due date brought joyful anticipation among the Countryfile community and animal conservation advocates alike.

As 2026 approaches, Adam Henson and his team at Cotswold Farm Park prepare to welcome a new generation of this remarkable breed, symbolizing hope for their future and the preservation of Britain’s agricultural heritage.
