Countryfile’s Adam Henson: A Family Legacy from BBC Roots to EastEnders Fame

Adam Henson has been a beloved figure on British television for over two decades, best known for his work on Countryfile. Since 2001, the 59-year-old farmer has shared expert tips and animal insights from his Cotswold Farm Park in Gloucestershire, becoming a trusted face for viewers nationwide.

Adam’s television career extends beyond Countryfile, including appearances on Gardeners' World, Springtime on the Farm, and Lambing Live. His approachable style and farming knowledge have made him a fixture on BBC screens.

His passion for farming and presenting was inspired by his father, Joseph Leslie “Joe” Henson, a respected farmer and TV personality. Joe was known for presenting on BBC’s Animal Magic and In The Country, and for founding the Rare Breeds Survival Trust to conserve rare farm animals. In 1971, Joe opened the Cotswold Farm Park to the public, fostering a legacy that Adam continues today. Adam fondly recalls Joe as a “TV natural” and a “fantastic storyteller” who was also his biggest supporter, often calling with congratulations or advice after shows. Joe was recognized with an MBE in 2011 for his dedication to rare breeds and animal conservation before passing away in 2015.

Adam’s family roots extend into the entertainment world through his grandfather, the British actor and comedian Leslie Henson, and his uncle, the late Nicky Henson. Nicky was a familiar face on British television, with roles in popular series like Inspector Morse, Lovejoy, and Fawlty Towers. He also appeared in the BBC soap EastEnders as Jack Edwards, a character whose storyline left a lasting impact on the show. Adam has recounted how growing up in such a family meant celebrities often visited the farm, thanks to his father’s media connections and his uncle’s acting career.

Away from the cameras, Adam shares a close bond with his wife Charlotte, affectionately known as “Charlie,” and their two adult children, Alfie and Ella. The couple, who have been together since their teenage years, tied the knot during a private ceremony amid the COVID-19 pandemic—just before Charlotte underwent a significant operation after being diagnosed with stage one pancreatic cancer in late 2020. Despite the emotional challenges, they have shown remarkable strength, with Charlotte returning to work part-time while continuing regular health scans.

Adam’s story is one of family, resilience, and a deep love for farming and storytelling. His journey—from a TV legacy rooted in conservation and entertainment, to personal trials and triumphs—continues to inspire many across the UK.
