Sean Fletcher, beloved presenter on Countryfile and Good Morning Britain, has spoken openly about the profound impact of losing his mother to bowel cancer and how embracing the outdoors has helped him heal mentally and emotionally. Beyond his television career and role as a devoted father, Sean is an avid runner and passionate advocate for outdoor activities.
Recently, Sean teamed up with GO Outdoors to promote their autumn and winter clothing range. Reflecting on the partnership, he said, “Many of the programs I work on are outdoors, so whether I’m taking part in outdoor activities or meeting people passionate about the land, it’s a dream job. From farmers to cliff divers, everyone I meet shares this deep connection to the outdoors.”
Highlighting the restorative power of nature, Sean explained, “I’ve long believed that being outdoors nourishes your soul. Whether it’s a small park in London or a remote, windswept location, being outside always recharges me. It’s so good for mental wellbeing.”

He remains committed to increasing awareness of mental health, especially with GO Outdoors, stressing that nature should be accessible to everyone regardless of background. “Whether you’re a pensioner in the Cotswolds or a child from a disadvantaged area in Manchester, our countryside belongs to all of us. Good clothing makes outdoor activities more accessible, and that’s where GO Outdoors fits perfectly.”
Sean highlighted some of his essential gear from the GO Outdoors collection, notably recommending the Peter Storm 3-in-1 jacket for its versatile layering options.
On a deeply personal note, Sean reflected on his mother’s passing eight years ago and how it motivated him to run the London Marathon in her memory. Initially hesitant when asked by Good Morning Britain producers to participate, he found the experience profoundly uplifting. “My mum died of bowel cancer, and as an ambassador for Bowel Cancer UK, it’s emotional and heartbreaking. Running the marathon, surrounded by thousands supporting different causes, was incredible. I ran it four times in a row.”
Sean recalled the difficult final weeks with his mother: “She kept her diagnosis from me, and living hours away made visits challenging. When I finally learned the truth, it was rapid—she passed just three and a half weeks later. Those last two weeks were the hardest; she didn’t speak much, and it broke my heart.”
Now as a proud GO Outdoors ambassador, Sean encourages everyone to explore the outdoors and reap its benefits. His partnership with the UK’s largest outdoor retailer underscores his message that connecting with nature is vital for wellbeing.
