Countryfile Star Michaela Strachan Shares Inspiring Health Update After Tumultuous Journey

Michaela Strachan, beloved former presenter of Countryfile and current Springwatch star, has shared a heartfelt update on her health following a challenging journey marked by cancer treatment and a significant injury. Now 59, Michaela is gearing up for her upcoming UK tour, where she will reflect on her four-decade career and personal battles, including her breast cancer diagnosis.

Diagnosed in 2014 with breast cancer, Michaela underwent a double mastectomy and completed five years of tamoxifen therapy. More recently, Springwatch fans noticed a lump on her throat, sparking concern. Thankfully, medical tests confirmed it was a benign cyst, which was promptly drained, leaving her in good health.

In an exclusive reveal, Michaela expressed gratitude for her recovery and hopes her story offers hope to others facing health struggles. “I often forget I’ve had breast cancer, which is incredible,” she said. “If you’re lucky like me and it ends with surgery and some treatment, you can get through it.” Approaching her 60th birthday, Michaela enjoys good health and stays active, exemplified by her impressive stint on Dancing On Ice last year.

While competing on the show at age 58, Michaela reached the finals alongside skating partner Mark Hanretty. Despite loving the experience, she admitted the demanding training at times left her “in tears” due to intense pain. Just days before the finale, she suffered a severe hamstring and glute injury. Unaware of the full extent due to adrenaline and medication, the injury was only diagnosed later via MRI as a rupture and multiple tears.

Recovery was slow and required diligent rehabilitation over the course of a year. “Doing proper rehab exercises regularly has made all the difference,” Michaela shared.

Her forthcoming tour, Not Just A Wild Life, launching in April, promises audiences a captivating journey through her career highlights, from early roles on The Wide Awake Club and The Hitman and Her to iconic programs like Countryfile and Springwatch. Fans will also hear amusing stories, such as how a rubber chicken sparked her professional career.

Reflecting on her life’s path, Michaela described it as a journey with unexpected detours and wonderful experiences. “That’s why we named the show Not Just A Wild Life — to capture everything. Fitting my career into two 45-minute sets has been a challenge, but I want to celebrate this journey with the audience that’s grown up with me.”
