Countryfile Star Adam Henson Stands by Wife During Her Health Battle and Their Marriage Journey

Adam Henson, the familiar face of BBC’s Countryfile, is known for sharing the beauty of rural life, but he keeps his personal life largely private. Since joining the show in 2021, Adam has occasionally shared glimpses of his life with his wife, Charlotte Gilbert, affectionately called Charlie, and their family.

Adam and Charlie’s relationship began in their teenage years, reportedly meeting at school when they were about 16. Over the years, their bond grew strong, leading to a life together on their farm in the Cotswolds. The couple has two children, Ella and Alfie, who have now reached adulthood and chosen careers outside of farming.

Charlie played a significant role in Adam’s career, encouraging him to audition for Countryfile. Reflecting on her influence, Adam shared with the Mirror, “Countryfile did a presenter search, and although I wasn’t bothered, my partner nagged me about it, as she thought I’d be really good. After lots of auditions, I ended up getting the job.”

In 2021, the couple faced a difficult challenge when Charlie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Despite the often grim prognosis associated with the illness, Charlie’s particular type—neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer—was treatable. Adam described the ordeal to BBC Gloucestershire: “My heart goes out to the people who have been in that situation but we were very fortunate that the type of pancreatic cancer she had was known as neuroendocrine and it turned out that it was treatable.”

During that turbulent time, Adam and Charlie decided to formalize their partnership and got married in 2021 at Stroud Registry Office. Reflecting on the significance of their wedding, Charlie shared with the Mirror, “After 28 years together you do get a bit complacent, but getting married was suddenly really important - we didn’t know how long we had left, and I wanted Adam to know I was committed to him.”

Adam added emotionally, “We cried a lot. Those vows cemented my emotions and let me say from the heart how I feel about Charlie.”

Countryfile continues to air on BBC One Sundays at 6 pm, with Adam Henson bringing rural stories to the screen while standing strong by his family’s side through life’s trials and triumphs.
