Countryfile Launches 2026 Calendar Photo Competition, Delighting Viewers

Countryfile fans were thrilled on Sunday evening as presenter John Craven officially opened entries for the much-loved 2026 Countryfile calendar photography competition.

For over 30 years, this competition has grown into one of the UK’s most prestigious photography contests, celebrating the natural beauty of the British countryside. Last year’s winner, Ursula Armstrong, saw her stunning image ‘Seal of Approval’ grace the cover of the 2025 calendar.

This year, BBC One is searching for 12 breathtaking images—captured by viewers at home—that showcase the theme “wild encounters.” Photographs can feature anything from birds, bugs, plants, and animals to landscapes, as long as they are taken within the UK.

The competition launch took place during the June 29 episode of Countryfile, where presenter Anita Rani highlighted the unique landscapes of Spurn Point as inspiration for potential entries. John Craven emphasized the incredible diversity of wildlife and scenery across the UK, encouraging viewers to submit their best shots that reveal the untamed side of the countryside.

“The theme this year is wild encounters,” John said. “We want to see the raw, natural beauty of our countryside captured in all its glory.”

The annual calendar, a cherished tradition since 1998, is sold to support BBC Children in Need, adding a charitable element to this celebration of nature and photography.

Viewers took to social media in excitement, with many expressing surprise at how quickly the competition had returned. One fan wrote, “Can’t believe he’s started the flipping calendar photo comp already. Only just got over last year’s. More squirrel pics #Countryfile.” Others eagerly shared their own nature photographs in the hopes of being featured.

Countryfile continues to air every Sunday on BBC One and is available to stream on iPlayer, inspiring audiences to connect with the great outdoors and showcase their photography skills.
