Countryfile Host John Craven Announces Record-Breaking Calendar Fundraiser

Countryfile fans were delighted when host John Craven shared fantastic news during the Sunday episode on January 11th. The BBC presenter announced that the latest Countryfile calendar had already raised an astonishing £1,776,082 for BBC Children in Need.

The Countryfile calendar competition, a prestigious photography contest running for over 30 years, continues to showcase breathtaking images from across the UK. Last year’s winner, Ursula Armstrong, captured the nation’s imagination with her stunning “Seal of Approval” photograph, which graced the 2025 calendar cover.

For the 2026 edition, viewers were invited to submit spectacular photos featuring wildlife, insects, flora, and landscapes from around the UK. The winning 12 images earned spots in the new calendar, which is priced at £11.99, including postage.

During the Northumberland-based episode, John Craven expressed his gratitude to everyone who purchased the calendar and contributed to making this fundraising effort a tremendous success. “If you haven’t picked one up yet, they are on sale until January 31st,” he said, adding, “A very, very big thank you to all who have supported us.”

Despite the excitement, some viewers found the timing of the calendar promotion amusing, given it was already mid-January. Social media reactions included playful comments about the late plug and queries about discounts as the calendar season winds down.

The photo competition theme, “wild encounters,” was introduced last June by presenters Anita Rani and John Craven, celebrating the UK’s extraordinary landscapes and wildlife. They encouraged viewers to capture the country’s natural beauty during the summer months for a chance to be featured.

Countryfile continues to air Sundays at 6 pm on BBC One and is available for streaming on iPlayer.
