Countryfile Host Adam Henson Calls for Young Contenders in New Countryside Champion Competition

In the newest episode of BBC’s Countryfile, presenter Adam Henson joined forces with Sean Fletcher at the iconic Balmoral Show, a revered agricultural event now celebrating its 157th year in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. Drawing crowds of over 100,000 annually, the show offers a vibrant snapshot of farming life and rural traditions.

Adam, perfectly at ease amidst the farming community, explored innovative local agricultural practices and engaged with families showcasing their champion livestock. Meanwhile, Sean captured the excitement of the tractor-handling competition, highlighting the dynamic nature of the event.

Together, the presenters underscored the vital importance of such gatherings in promoting awareness of agricultural work and securing the future of the sector. Midway through the episode, Adam made a special announcement that excited viewers.

Broadcasting from ringside during a horse display, Sean introduced the initiative with a call to action: “Everywhere we go on Countryfile, we need people with a real passion for the countryside. Now, we are looking for the next generation of those passionate individuals.”

Adam then appeared in a lush cattle pasture to reveal the launch of the Countryfile Young Countryside Champion competition, part of the BBC Food and Farming Awards 2026. The competition seeks to spotlight young talent committed to rural innovation, wildlife conservation, and community engagement.

“Countryfile is searching for a young countryside champion,” Adam declared. “Whether it’s a young farmer pioneering sustainable practices, a naturalist protecting local wildlife, or a volunteer who’s opening up countryside experiences for others, we want to hear their story.”

Targeting those aged 16 to 24 who are passionate about improving the British countryside, Adam encouraged viewers: “If you or someone you know fits this description, please get in touch and share your story.”

The competition’s nomination deadline is midday on Friday, 15th June 2026. The program continues to showcase the rich tapestry of rural Britain every Sunday on BBC One and via BBC iPlayer.
