In the latest episode of BBC’s Countryfile, presenter Adam Henson joined Sean Fletcher at the 157th Balmoral Show in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, a prestigious agricultural event attracting over 100,000 visitors annually. The duo immersed themselves in the vibrant atmosphere, showcasing local farming traditions, champion livestock, and a thrilling tractor-handling contest.
Highlighting the importance of events like the Balmoral Show, Adam and Sean underscored their vital role in promoting agricultural work and its future prospects. Midway through the broadcast, Adam revealed an exciting opportunity for young countryside enthusiasts.
From the ringside of a horse display, Sean spoke directly to viewers about the desire to find the next generation passionate about rural life. “Countryfile is searching for a young countryside champion between the ages of 16 and 24,” Adam explained. “This could be a young farmer experimenting with innovative or sustainable farming methods, a naturalist dedicated to wildlife conservation, or a volunteer expanding countryside access for others. If you or someone you know is making a positive impact in the British countryside, we’d love to hear your story.”
Nominations for the competition must be submitted by midday on Friday, 15th June 2026.
Countryfile, a staple of BBC programming that airs every Sunday on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer, continues to inspire and celebrate those making a difference in rural communities.
