Council leaders have announced a firm stance against the display of flags deemed ‘divisive’ and ‘intimidating’ within their jurisdictions. In an effort to maintain community harmony and promote inclusivity, unauthorised flags, including Union Jacks and St George’s Crosses, put up without permission will be promptly removed.
The decision reflects growing concerns that certain flags can amplify social divisions and create an unwelcoming atmosphere for some residents. By enforcing strict guidelines on flag displays, the councils aim to ensure public spaces remain respectful and welcoming for all community members.
Officials emphasize that authorised flag displays celebrating unity and diversity will still be supported. However, any flags intended to provoke or intimidate will not be tolerated. This move highlights the councils' commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among residents.
