Residents and drivers in the Cotswolds should prepare for significant disruption as road resurfacing works near Moreton-in-Marsh prompt a series of closures over three weeks. The maintenance efforts will take place in stages, affecting key routes around the village.
The initial closure will end on Wednesday, June 10, but beginning Thursday, June 11, a one-mile stretch of Moreton Road—from Charlesway at Longborough’s edge to the Roman Road junction—will close for resurfacing. This phase will run daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., concluding on Friday, June 19, except during the weekend.
Following this, the original closure through Longborough village will return for one final day on Monday, June 22, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Altogether, Moreton Road will be affected by closures for 15 working days over three weeks.

During these closures, travelers should expect a six-mile diversion. The designated route heads south along the A424 to Stow-on-the-Wold before looping back up Roman Road to bypass the closed section.
Drivers can also consider an alternative detour via Sezincote through Longborough to Bourton-on-the-Hill, then east along the A44, reconnecting with Roman Road at the Longborough junction. However, this alternative is approximately the same distance and may have restrictions unsuitable for larger vehicles.
Residents who usually park on roads within the closure zones are advised to find alternative parking during closure hours. Vehicles obstructing the works risk being towed. Pedestrian access to properties within the closed sections will be maintained and allowed as safety permits.
