Residents and drivers in the Cotswolds will experience significant disruption as road resurfacing works lead to closures on Moreton Road near Moreton-in-Marsh over the next three weeks. The initial closure, affecting part of the road through Longborough village, will reopen on Wednesday, June 10. However, immediately following this, a one-mile section of Moreton Road—from Charlesway at Longborough’s edge to the Roman Road junction—will close for seven days starting Thursday, June 11, through to Friday, June 19 (weekends excluded). These closures will be enforced daily between 7 am and 7 pm.
Additionally, the Longborough village closure will return for one final day on Monday, June 22, from 9 am to 3 pm. Altogether, Moreton Road will be inaccessible on a total of 15 working days during this period.
Throughout these closures, drivers will need to follow a six-mile diversion, which directs traffic south along the A424 to Stow-on-the-Wold, then back north via the Roman Road to circumvent the closed sections. An alternative route exists via Sezincote and Bourton-on-the-Hill, rejoining the A44 and looping back to the Roman Road junction near Longborough. However, this alternative is roughly the same length and may present challenges for some vehicles due to road suitability.

Residents who typically park on the closed sections of Moreton Road are advised to seek alternative parking during closure hours to avoid potential towing. Pedestrian access to properties within the closed areas will be maintained when safe to do so, ensuring residents can reach their homes despite the ongoing works.
Drivers and residents are encouraged to plan their journeys ahead to accommodate the closures and diversions.
