The Ian Coley Shooting School, located in Andoversford near Cheltenham in the Cotswolds, has submitted an application to Cotswolds District Council to double the number of days it can operate each month. Currently limited to 12 days, the school is seeking permission to increase this to 24 days per month.
Despite the proposed increase, the school plans to maintain its existing operating hours, running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while excluding Sundays and bank holidays from its schedule.
The shooting grounds, off the A436, received an extension in 2019 and have since complied fully with all regulatory conditions. The school’s application includes a statement of justification noting that there have been no noise complaints and the local biodiversity remains unaffected by their activities.

Beyond financial gains for the business, the proposed extension is expected to deliver broader benefits to the surrounding community and environment. The application asserts that this amendment is a reasonable and justified adjustment, supporting the growth and sustainability of Ian Coley Shooting School while continuing to meet environmental and noise standards.
Ian Coley MBE, a former Great Britain Olympic shooting coach, brings a distinguished legacy to the school. Since his first representation of England in 1971, he has represented the nation over 200 times in various capacities, including shooter, coach, and team manager. He also coached Olympic gold medalists Richard Faulds and Peter Wilson, underscoring the school’s commitment to excellence.
