Cotswolds Road Closure in Moreton-in-Marsh Imposes 15-Mile Nighttime Diversion

Starting Monday, June 22, the A44 London Road in Moreton-in-Marsh will be closed overnight for seven nights as essential resurfacing work takes place. The closure will be in effect from 8pm to 7am each night until Tuesday, June 30, excluding the weekend of June 27 and 28.

Though only a one-mile section of London Road is affected, drivers will face a substantial diversion of nearly 15 miles. Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways team has established a route directing motorists south along the A429 Roman Road to Stow-on-the-Wold, then east on the A436 past Daylesford, before rejoining the A44 between Salford and Little Compton.

Additionally, a portion of Evenlode Road between the A44 London Road and Cotsmore Close will also be closed, preventing a shorter local bypass around the closure. Residents who usually park on the affected stretch must find alternative parking during closure hours, as vehicles obstructing works risk being towed.

Pedestrian access to properties within the closure zone will be maintained, with crossings permitted when safe. The Highways team emphasizes that the extended closure area allows for the safe movement and placement of machinery and materials during resurfacing operations.

A letter sent to local residents explained, “To ensure the safety of you and our work force, a Temporary Traffic Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 has been enacted. Although inconvenient, these measures are necessary, and work has been scheduled to minimize disruption.”

Motorists and residents are advised to stay updated on any changes via Gloucestershire Road’s official Facebook page or @GlosRoad on X (formerly Twitter).
