Cotswolds Restaurant Juliet Earns Top Spot in National Critic’s Top 10

Juliet, a charming restaurant in Stroud, Cotswolds, has been named among the top 10 restaurants of the year by Giles Coren, the renowned critic for The Times. Remarkably, Juliet received a perfect score of 10 out of 10 for cooking, location, and service — the only establishment to earn this distinction all year.

Coren praised Juliet as “a timeless, friendly, entirely unpretentious modern bistro, serving perfectly executed, classically inspired dishes, quietly and elegantly, on the main road in a town three quarters of British adults haven’t heard of.”

Highlighting some standout dishes, he remarked: “In a year when panisses were everywhere, here they were the best: a foot long and covered with grated parmesan like cheesy churros. I loved the hogget chop with fine beans and anchovy, the bavette frites, the matchstick zucchini, the Amalfi lemon tart, the wine list, and a bill that was not far north of £150 for four.”

Since opening, Juliet has garnered acclaim from other critics as well. The Guardian’s Grace Dent urged food lovers to make the journey to Stroud, noting, “Juliet is seriously worth a schlep to Stroud, but you had better book well in advance. Right now, it seems, the locals are settling in for winter.”

Juliet is owned by Daniel Chadwick, who also operates the Woolpack in nearby Slad—recently named one of the UK’s top 50 gastropubs. The restaurant has even attracted local celebrities, with Richard E Grant and Liam Gallagher both spotted enjoying meals there.

With its combination of impeccable food, warm atmosphere, and prime location, Juliet continues to establish itself as a must-visit dining destination in the Cotswolds.
