Summer evenings have arrived, and the sun now lingers well past 9pm, offering the perfect opportunity to experience the Cotswolds in a new light. This July, Tinkley Gate at Woodchester Park, located just outside Stroud, is celebrating its third anniversary by extending its opening hours and hosting a variety of special events to make the most of the season.
Starting now and continuing every Friday and Saturday until July 25, Tinkley Gate will stay open until 8pm—three hours later than usual—allowing visitors to soak up tranquil woodland walks and breathtaking golden hour views. The welcoming café will remain open until 7:30pm, serving its popular wood-fired pizzas, focaccia, cakes, and drinks alongside new ice cream-based treats featured in a special dessert club.
Visitors can relax in hammocks and deck chairs scattered across the grounds, join in lawn and board games, or bask in the laid-back atmosphere of the summer evenings. Selected nights (July 11 and 24) will also showcase free live music performances, bringing an added cultural touch to the experience.

For those seeking more interactive pursuits, guided walks and art workshops are available to book through the National Trust Woodchester Park website. Theatre lovers won’t want to miss the outdoor performances by Quantum Theatre: “The Tales of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny” on July 19 at 5:30pm, and “Treasure Island” on August 7 at 5:30pm. Tickets for these shows must be reserved in advance.
Looking ahead to August, the site will offer a free 10k trail run beginning at 9:30am on August 23, perfect for fitness enthusiasts eager to explore the park’s trails. On the same morning, nature enthusiasts can participate in a free Moth Morning event to learn about these fascinating creatures in daylight.
Max Biddlestone, National Trust’s visitor experience manager for the Cotswolds, expressed enthusiasm for the celebrations: “We’re thrilled to mark three years of welcoming visitors with such a diverse programme that truly highlights the best of Tinkley Gate. From walks and workshops to theatre and live music, these summer evenings offer something special for everyone. We’re incredibly grateful to our local community for their ongoing support.”
Celebrate summer and Tinkley Gate’s anniversary with enriching outdoor experiences that promise memorable moments for families and nature lovers alike.
