Cotswolds Market Town Cirencester Ranks in UK’s Top 10 Happiest Places to Live

Cirencester, a beloved market town in Gloucestershire known as the ‘capital of the Cotswolds,’ has once again earned national recognition for its quality of life. In Rightmove’s 2025 Happy at Home Index, released on December 5, Cirencester secured ninth place among the happiest places to live across the UK.

Standing out in the South West region, Cirencester topped the list ahead of Gloucester, which ranked 14th. The survey reports the average house asking price in Cirencester at £472,990, with average monthly rent around £1,975. This consistency highlights the town’s ongoing appeal, maintaining its ninth-place position from last year’s index.

Residents’ happiness was assessed based on factors such as neighborliness, access to employment, and local amenities. The South West overall ranked highest for resident happiness in Great Britain, with the East Midlands scoring lowest — though differences were marginal.

Leading the national rankings, Skipton in North Yorkshire claimed the top spot for the first time, praised for its community and charm. Other notable areas in the top 10 include Richmond upon Thames, Camden, and Harrogate.

Colleen Babcock, Rightmove’s property expert, emphasized the importance of more than just the home when choosing where to live. “Green spaces, friendly neighbours, and feeling you can truly be yourself,” she noted, “are vital contributors to happiness in a community.”

With its blend of historic charm, strong community spirit, and beautiful surroundings, Cirencester continues to be a desirable place to call home for those seeking happiness and a high quality of life.
