Cotswolds’ Juliet Restaurant Earns Top Spot in National Critic’s Elite Top 10

Juliet, a charming restaurant nestled in the heart of Stroud in the Cotswolds, has been distinguished as one of the top 10 restaurants in the UK by Giles Coren, the renowned food critic from The Times. Visiting earlier this year, Coren awarded the venue a flawless 10 out of 10 for its cooking, location, and service — the only establishment to achieve this perfect score in his annual roundup.

In his glowing review, Coren described Juliet as “something you almost never get: a timeless, friendly, entirely unpretentious modern bistro, serving perfectly executed, classically inspired dishes, quietly and elegantly, on the main road in a town three quarters of British adults haven’t heard of.”

Among his culinary highlights were the standout panisses — crispy, parmesan-coated delights likened to ‘cheesy churros’ — as well as the hogget chop accompanied by fine beans and anchovy, bavette frites, matchstick zucchini, and the tangy Amalfi lemon tart. He also praised the thoughtfully curated wine list and the remarkably reasonable bill, which came to just under £150 for four guests.

Since its opening, Juliet has steadily earned acclaim not only from national critics but also from local food lovers. The Guardian’s Grace Dent commended the restaurant for its quality, encouraging diners to book ahead to secure a spot.

Owned by Daniel Chadwick, who also runs the Woolpack gastropub in nearby Slad, Juliet continues to attract a diverse crowd — including celebrities such as Richard E Grant and Liam Gallagher — further cementing its reputation as a standout dining destination in the Cotswolds.
