A driver in the Cotswolds was lucky to survive a severe crash on an icy road with only minor injuries. The incident underscores the dangers posed by winter driving conditions and has prompted a strong safety warning from local police.
The Cotswolds Neighbourhood Policing Team took to Facebook to remind drivers to exercise extra caution during cold weather. They emphasized the importance of allowing more time for journeys, increasing the distance between vehicles, and avoiding sudden braking or sharp turns on icy surfaces.
“As temperatures drop and frost, black ice, and reduced visibility become common, road conditions can change rapidly,” said a team spokesperson. “Drivers should take a moment before every trip to clear windows, slow down, and stay alert for hazardous patches, especially on bridges and poorly lit roads.”

The police team highlighted a recent collision attended by their officers, where thankfully the occupant escaped serious harm. They stressed that such accidents can happen quickly and urged all drivers to prioritize safety—whether commuting, running errands, or traveling for the holidays.
“Your careful driving protects not just yourself but everyone sharing the road,” the spokesperson added. The message is clear: winter roads demand vigilance and caution to prevent tragic outcomes.
