A humble cricket team from the Cotswolds, made up of plumbers, tree surgeons, students, and tradespeople, has stunned the cricketing world by setting a new T20 world record score of 417 runs.
Dumbleton Cricket Club, competing in Division One of the West of England Premier League, achieved an unprecedented total of 417-2 in just 20 overs, surpassing the previous highest T20 score of 416 runs set in India in 2017 by a single run.
The team’s extraordinary innings included 47 sixes and 22 fours, amassing an incredible 69 boundaries from 120 balls. They lost only two wickets and maintained an electrifying run rate of 20.85 runs per over. The record-breaking game was played at their picturesque home ground, a venue now etched into semi-professional cricket history.

The standout performance came from Ewan Gegg, who blasted an unbeaten 206 off 55 balls, reaching his century in just 30 deliveries and doubling it in only 24 more. His spectacular knock featured 23 sixes and 13 fours. Other key contributors were Dan Holland, scoring 122 from 37 balls, and Thomas Kelly, who added 64 from 25.
Ewan reflected on the achievement: “It’s been surreal. The messages and calls from across the globe, even New Zealand, have been unbelievable. We knew our score was high but didn’t realise it was a world record until we checked.”
The previous record was held by an Indian team that scored 416-2, while the highest T20 International total between two Test nations remains England’s 304-2 against South Africa last year. The highest professional T20 total before this was Baroda’s 349-5 in 2024.
Dumbleton’s opponents, Hatherley & Reddings CC from WEPL Division 2, also produced an impressive 229 runs. With a combined total of 646 runs scored in less than 40 overs, the match was a thrilling showcase of attacking cricket. Dumbleton won by 188 runs in this official Varistha T20 league fixture.
Ewan described the effortless feel of the innings: “We didn’t have a rigid plan — just to start positively and keep pushing. After the six-over powerplay yielding 118 runs, we sensed something special was unfolding. Though we aimed for 300, 417 was beyond all expectations.”
Dan Holland added: “Watching Ewan and TK (Thomas Kelly) storm away was incredible. We’ve played high-scoring games before, but to reach 400 in just 20 overs was jaw-dropping. We simply tried to hit every ball for six.”
Established in 1885, Dumbleton Cricket Club—set in one of England’s most scenic cricket venues—now awaits official recognition for this record-breaking performance.
Club spokesperson Pete Boorman said, “Everyone was speechless witnessing such a score. After checking global records, no men’s T20 team has posted higher than 417. We hope it is officially ratified, potentially even by Guinness World Records. The last record holders at 416 must have thought it untouchable.”
Reflecting on the innings, Boorman added, “It was bonkers. Ewan hit everything to the boundary regardless of the bowling. This isn’t just an extraordinary score—it’s a once-in-a-lifetime cricket spectacle.”
