Holy Water, a bar located at 11 Lansdown in Stroud, is seeking approval to extend its opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Currently licensed to sell alcohol and play recorded music until 11pm daily, the venue’s founder, Adam McVay, has applied to the Stroud District Council for a variation that would allow the bar to remain open until 1:30am on weekend nights.
The proposed extension would enable Holy Water to serve drinks and entertain customers with music until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. Additionally, the new plans include permitting patrons to use the garden area at the rear of the premises, though this outdoor space would close by 10pm.
The initial license granted in October 2024 allowed Holy Water to operate seven days a week until 11pm. Despite the bar’s intentions to be a responsible venue, some local residents raised concerns about noise and disturbances when the bar first opened. Neighbors have previously described issues with loud, intoxicated individuals causing trouble such as running on car rooftops and throwing rubbish into their gardens.

At the licensing hearing on October 21, Adam McVay emphasized that Holy Water is not intended to be a late-night party hotspot but rather the base for his events company. He expressed willingness to comply with reasonable closing times to minimize disruption to residents.
Community members have until Wednesday, June 11, to submit their views on the application. Comments can be addressed to the licensing section of the environmental health department at Stroud District Council, Ebley Mill, Ebley Wharf, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 4UB.
