Cotswold and Shire Hall Leader Paul Hodgkinson Re-Selected as Lib Dem Candidate for North Cotswolds

Paul Hodgkinson, a prominent Gloucestershire County Council leader and cabinet member responsible for public health, communities, and fire services at Shire Hall, has been re-selected as the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for North Cotswolds.

Hodgkinson, who serves as a councillor for Bourton-on-the-Water, Northleach, Chedworth, and Churn Valley, has represented the North Cotswold division for 12 years and also holds a cabinet position in Cirencester overseeing health, culture, and visitor experience.

Having lived in the area for 35 years, Hodgkinson emphasizes his deep understanding of local challenges. He is focused on improving the NHS, tackling the cost of living crisis, enhancing public services, and protecting the region’s environment. “My priority is delivering for local residents, not engaging in Westminster politics,” he stated.

In the 2024 general election, Hodgkinson came second to Conservative MP Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, who secured 17,426 votes compared to Hodgkinson’s 14,069. Labour, Reform UK, the Green Party, and an Independent candidate also contested the seat, polling 8,593, 6,502, 3,191, and 448 votes respectively.

Hodgkinson describes himself as the “clear challenger” and believes he is the only candidate positioned to overcome Reform UK in the upcoming election.

The North Cotswolds constituency covers parts of the Cotswold and Stroud districts as well as sections of Tewkesbury borough. The next general election is expected to take place by August 15, 2029.
