Costco has announced that its eagerly awaited new warehouse in Gloucester is set to open soon, signalling the arrival of the wholesale giant’s first branch in Gloucestershire. Recent signage at the site confirms the opening is imminent, while the retailer’s Instagram page teased, “The wait is over… you guessed it! We’re opening soon in Gloucester!”
The warehouse, located on the former Interbrew site on Eastern Avenue-now known as Access Park-is part of a multi-million-pound development that will also include a nine-pump petrol station with a tyre fitting bay. When completed, the facility will offer 612 customer parking spaces and feature a new vehicle access off Chancel Close.
Construction is progressing well. A spokesperson for the building firm Glencar stated, “The steel frame is now complete, earthworks are nearing completion and cladding and roofing are underway, with the next milestone being achievement of a watertight building envelope.”
Costco’s new warehouse will span approximately 13,000 square metres and is expected to create around 250 jobs, with the majority targeted towards local residents. Current job adverts include positions for an optometrist and audiologist, both closing on 18 August.
Planning permission was granted back in April 2025, with minor layout refinements submitted recently but still pending approval. The retailer has also applied for a premises licence to sell alcohol off the premises between 8am and 11pm daily.
Costco operates a membership-only model, catering predominantly to registered professionals, and currently its nearest stores are located in Bristol and Coventry. Although an official opening date has yet to be confirmed, customer speculation and construction schedules suggest the warehouse will open later this year. One customer reported hearing a possible opening month of November from staff at an Avonmouth location.
Costco has been approached for further comment regarding a confirmed opening date as the build advances towards completion in 2026.
