Costco has announced that its much-anticipated Gloucester warehouse is set to open soon, with signage on-site confirming the impending launch. The announcement came via the retailer’s official Instagram account last week, stating: “The wait is over… you guessed it! We’re opening soon in Gloucester!”
Currently, several positions are being advertised for the new location, including roles for an optometrist and audiologist, with application deadlines closing on 18 August. While no exact opening date has been provided, indications suggest the store will commence operations later this year.
In February, construction firm Glencar provided an update on the project, revealing that the warehouse will cover 13,000 square metres as part of a multi-million-pound development. The site will also include a Costco fuel station featuring nine pumps and a tyre fitting bay, along with 612 customer parking spaces. A new vehicle access point off Chancel Close will serve the premises.

According to Glencar, “The steel frame is now complete, earthworks are nearing completion and cladding and roofing are underway, with the next milestone being achievement of a watertight building envelope.”
The development is located on the former Interbrew site on Eastern Avenue, now known as Access Park. Planning permission for the warehouse was granted in April 2025, with minor design adjustments currently under consideration by Gloucester City Council.
Costco had previously indicated that the Gloucester site would create approximately 250 jobs, primarily recruited from the local community. The retailer operates on a membership basis, restricting access to approved employment groups. The closest existing stores are located in Bristol and Coventry.
Additionally, a recent public notice dated May 2026 reveals that Costco Wholesale UK Limited has applied for a premises licence to sell alcohol for off-site consumption between 8am and 11pm daily at the Gloucester location.
Although an exact opening date awaits confirmation, some social media reports suggest a potential November launch. Others anticipate a delay until nearby roadworks on Eastern Avenue conclude.
Glencar emphasised that they are “working closely with Costco and the wider project team to maintain programme certainty as construction progresses toward completion in 2026.”
Costco has been contacted for further details regarding the official opening date.
