Gloucestershire is grappling with significant flooding this morning, leading to the closure of more than a dozen roads across the county. Following an intense downpour overnight brought on by Storm Claudia, Gloucestershire County Council’s highway department has shut down fifteen roads to protect public safety.
The council’s dedicated website, which monitors road closures due to extreme weather such as flooding, fallen trees, snow, ice, and collisions, has published detailed information on all affected routes. They emphasized that their primary focus is on major routes, including A and B roads, as well as roads leading to hospitals and schools. Smaller local lanes may not be listed and could remain closed longer.
A council spokesperson explained the ongoing road closures: “After flooding, it’s crucial to inspect roads to ensure they’re safe to travel. Roads will remain closed until these assessments are complete. Even if a road appears clear, hazards like debris or surface damage may still pose risks. Please respect the signs and closures; they are in place to keep you and your vehicle safe.”

As of 9 a.m. on November 15, multiple routes are closed, impassable, or open with caution. The damage caused by Storm Claudia also contributed to widespread disruption on both road and rail networks. CrossCountry and Great Western Railway advised passengers on November 14 to avoid travel where possible due to flooding causing train delays and cancellations.
Residents affected by flooding can find further guidance and updates on response measures through Gloucestershire County Council’s official channels.
