‘Colourful’ Tribute Planned for Mother and Children Lost in Boxing Day Fire

A heartfelt tribute is being organized in memory of Fionnghuala “Nu” Shearman, a fashion designer, and her two young children, Eve, seven, and Ohner, four, who tragically lost their lives in a house fire on Boxing Day.

The devastating fire occurred at their mid-terrace Cotswold stone cottage on Brimscombe Hill near Stroud around 3 a.m. Emergency services responded swiftly, but despite the efforts of Mr. Shearman, who attempted to break in through a bathroom window and unlock doors, the fire’s severity prevented rescue. The children and their mother succumbed to the fire, along with the family dog.

In response to this heartbreaking loss, the local community is coming together to create a “crafty” floral tribute at the Brimscombe War Memorial. Led by Tasha Lloyd, the initiative invites community members to craft colorful flowers, emphasizing that creations don’t need to be perfect—just vibrant and meaningful. Donation boxes have been placed throughout Stroud to support this project, with a deadline set for January 16, 2026.

Tasha shared on a local Facebook group, “I hope that the process of making something helps the community, and I have a feeling she would have loved it.”

A GoFundMe campaign has also been launched to assist the family, raising over £321,000 to date. Police investigations continue into the fire, which started on the ground floor, with no suspicious circumstances reported.

The community’s collective act of remembrance through creativity reflects the deep impact Nu and her children had on those around them and offers a way for people to honour their memory.
