Clive Owen Reflects on the Enduring Magic of Lambing as New Lambs Arrive on the Farm

Clive Owen is well into his 36th lambing season at Ravenseat Farm, a milestone highlighted in the latest episode of the cherished Channel 4 series, Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids.

The episode follows the family as they balance farm life with ongoing renovations on Anty John’s derelict home. Among the farm duties, viewers were introduced to the newest members of their flock—freshly born lambs bringing renewed life to the rugged landscape.

Driving up to the lambing field, Clive shared his heartfelt reflections: “It’s lambing time, of course, my favourite time of the year. It used to be! Even after all these years, seeing the next crop of lambs never loses its magic. It’s a wonderful time— the start of everything. Every lamb counts. Though those 16-hour days don’t come as easy as they once did.”

Throughout the episode, Channel 4 audiences watched Clive carefully tending to the ewes and their newborn lambs, ensuring they had food and proper care. He explained that once lambs reach a few days old, they become more independent, but initial vigilance is essential.

Clive also commented on the physical demands of farming in such challenging terrain: “These hills seem to be getting steeper—that’s the only snag! But we’re still here, doing what we love. Farming here isn’t easy, but the views certainly make it worthwhile.”

Viewers glimpsed the lambs mere hours after birth, as Amanda, with her children, nurtured the tiny animals in the barn. Amanda emphasized the critical importance of early nourishment: “Everyone thinks lambing is just about lambs arriving, but there’s so much more to it than that. Getting milk to the lambs quickly is vital for their energy and survival,” she noted in a voiceover.

Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids offers an intimate look at the trials and joys of farm life, capturing the enduring bond between family, land, and livestock.
