Clarkson’s Farm Star Kaleb Cooper Fears Job Loss Amid Autonomous Tractor Arrival

Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about Kaleb Cooper’s growing concern that he might soon be “out of a job” due to technological changes at Diddly Squat farm.

Kaleb Cooper, a fan favorite from the Amazon Prime Video series Clarkson’s Farm, rose to prominence as Jeremy’s trusted right-hand man at the farm in Chipping Norton, Gloucestershire. Originally employed by the previous owner, Kaleb stayed on when Clarkson took over, guiding Jeremy through the complexities of running a working farm.

However, Kaleb’s confidence has recently been shaken following Jeremy’s investment in a driverless tractor. Clarkson explained to The Times that preparing the 200 acres for growing crops typically takes 20 hours with a 3-meter cultivator, plus 10 hours to plant the seeds — a monotonous 30-hour routine spent operating the tractor. Clarkson admits to making mistakes along the way, from missed turns and hitting gateposts to unknowingly planting empty seeds due to inattentiveness.

“An autonomous tractor wouldn’t make those mistakes,” Clarkson said. “It wouldn’t get bored, it doesn’t need breaks, and it never sleeps.”

Despite recognizing the efficiency the autonomous tractor brings, Clarkson revealed that Kaleb isn’t happy about it. “Kaleb hates it. He says it’ll put him out of a job,” he shared.

Clarkson tried to reassure Kaleb, joking that if he used the automated tractor, he could operate his manual tractor on another farm and earn double. According to Clarkson, Kaleb admitted, “He did agree I had a point.”

Since the show’s debut in 2021, Kaleb has become well known beyond the farm. He has spoken candidly about earlier struggles, including at one point earning just 50 pence an hour due to farming’s uncertain costs and profits. Today, he is a millionaire and shares two children, Oscar and Willa, with fiancée Taya. The couple is expecting their third child in August.
