Harriet Cowan, 24, has quickly become one of the standout figures of the fourth series of Jeremy Clarkson’s hit Amazon Prime Video show, Clarkson’s Farm. However, with her rising fame, Harriet has also faced a wave of online criticism—particularly targeting her choice to wear makeup and style her hair while working on the farm and speaking publicly about her experiences as a female farmer.
Joining Clarkson’s Farm alongside Jeremy Clarkson, Lisa Hogan, and fan-favorite Kaleb Cooper, Harriet stepped in as Kaleb toured with his national show. Since her debut, Harriet has attracted a large social media following, but not without encountering skepticism from some quarters.
After announcing plans to give a talk on farming, Harriet took to Instagram to address derogatory comments she had received about her appearance and authenticity as a farmer. Some critics doubted her farming credentials, saying, “She has never been a real farmer and is attempting to be a media star… None I have ever known apply full makeup and get their hair done to drive a tractor.” Others questioned her suitability as a speaker, while some accused her of letting fame go to her head.

Harriet responded with a heartfelt message: “Yes, I’m doing a panel about females in farming, but I think I earn the right to do so when day in, day out I work just the same as every other farmer—covered in s***. Who cares if I wear makeup or not? I don’t care if you have a haircut or not. I have farmed alongside my granddad and dad. I genuinely love it. This is my job, and it’s only because I’m a girl that I get these comments… come on. I have been quiet hoping to avoid negativity, but it still comes. Remember, we are real people.”
Harriet’s credentials extend beyond the show. Last summer, Off Limits Entertainment signed her, acknowledging her growing influence and passion for agriculture. The agency noted that Harriet’s quick wit and authentic insight into farming life have resonated widely. As a qualified nurse and a spokesperson for young farmers, Harriet brings a unique and relatable perspective to the community and beyond.
All seasons of Clarkson’s Farm are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
