Clarkson’s Farm Sparks Renewed Interest in Agriculture

Popular TV shows such as Clarkson’s Farm are sparking a fresh and vibrant interest in farming, injecting new energy into the agricultural sector. Herefordshire farmer Ally Hunter Blair, a special guest at this year’s Royal Three Counties Show, expresses enthusiasm about this growing trend.

Ally, whose family has been farming at Weir End Farm near Ross since 1968, eagerly anticipates the annual event where he will participate in panel discussions at the Future of Farming theatre alongside industry experts.

He observes that agriculture has gained significant popularity among people who previously had little connection to farming. The Royal Three Counties Show plays a crucial role in celebrating and showcasing the finest aspects of local agriculture—from advanced machinery to the extensive livestock on display.

“The show offers a fantastic chance for visitors to experience the countryside firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of agriculture,” Ally explains. “It’s wonderful to see this engagement.”

According to Ally, shows like Clarkson’s Farm are key drivers behind this newfound excitement. “There’s a new buzz around agriculture, attracting people who would never have considered farming before,” he notes.

This increased interest is vital for the industry, which continually faces the challenge of adapting to changing conditions. Ally stresses the importance of welcoming fresh perspectives from newcomers. “For the industry to thrive, we need new ideas and innovative thinking beyond traditional farming approaches.”

He emphasizes that agriculture has always evolved through reinvention and adaptation. “Embracing change is the only way forward—it’s an incredible opportunity,” Ally affirms.

Beyond his role on panel discussions, Ally will also provide commentary for machinery demonstrations in the main arena and participate in a food demonstration celebrating local produce alongside regional restaurants. He highlights the diverse range of activities available at the Royal Three Counties Show.

“The variety at the Three Counties Show is incredible,” he says. “From cookery demos and tractor driving to insightful interviews and panel talks about farming’s future, there really is something for everyone.”

Tickets for the Royal Three Counties Show 2026 start at £25, with free entry for under 16s.
