‘Cherished’ Forest of Dean Pub Faces Threat Over Noise Complaints

The Rising Sun Inn, a beloved pub in Moseley Green near Parkend in the Forest of Dean, is facing potential restrictions after noise complaints were raised by a neighbour. Known for its vibrant Sunday afternoon live music sessions, the pub attracts hundreds of visitors, supporting local bands and creating a lively community atmosphere.

Landlady Nikki Roach has launched a petition signed by over 2,200 supporters urging the Forest of Dean District Council to offer clearer, fairer guidelines on noise levels for community venues like hers. Since 2013, The Rising Sun has hosted live music events in its marquee, becoming a cherished local hub for families, music lovers, and visitors.

Despite its positive impact, a few noise complaints have cast uncertainty over the pub’s popular music tradition. Nikki explained that the pub’s outdoor sessions run from 3pm to 5pm every Sunday, well within reasonable hours. They have worked closely with the council, implementing measures including relocating the marquee to reduce noise impact, conducting weekly decibel checks, and performing risk assessments, all to meet regulatory requirements.

“We’ve done everything they’ve asked,” said Nikki. “Our local community loves the music, and some neighbours even enjoy sitting in their gardens listening.”

Yet complaints persist, with another lodged this year despite the pub’s cooperation. Nikki says she awaits further communication from the council and hopes for balanced support. Meanwhile, the council stresses its commitment both to fostering a thriving live music scene and fulfilling legal responsibilities on noise control and licensing. They confirm existing conditions on the pub’s licence aimed at minimizing disruption.
