Cheltenham Town’s experienced defender Scot Bennett has joined Weston-super-Mare on loan for the rest of the season, stepping down to the National League South.
The 35-year-old, who can also play in midfield, has been sidelined since December 6 when he was substituted during Cheltenham’s FA Cup second round match against Buxton. This loan move offers him a fresh opportunity to gain regular game time.
Bennett brings a wealth of experience, having amassed over 550 career appearances. He began his professional journey at Exeter City before spells with Notts County, Newport County, and a loan stint at York City.

After declining a new contract at Newport, Bennett signed with Cheltenham Town in the summer of 2024, where he was named team captain under manager Michael Flynn. Following knee surgery, he triggered an extension to his contract by reaching 25 League Two starts last season.
This campaign, injuries have limited his play, with just eight appearances before another knee setback during a September fixture against Crawley Town. His only recent outing came as a substitute against Buxton under manager Steve Cotterill. With his contract due to expire this summer, Bennett’s loan to Weston-super-Mare represents a key phase for maintaining match fitness and contributing to his new team.
Weston-super-Mare, managed by Scott Rogers, face Slough Town away on Tuesday evening, with Bennett likely to feature. Meanwhile, Cheltenham Town prepare for their League Two clash at Barnet this Saturday.
