Cheltenham’s Prithvi Recognised Among UK’s Top 100 Indian Restaurants

Prithvi, a beloved Indian restaurant located on Bath Road in Cheltenham, has been honoured as one of the top 100 Indian dining establishments in the United Kingdom. This prestigious recognition comes from the British Indian Good Food Guide’s 2025 national selection, which highlights 100 outstanding Indian restaurants across England, Scotland, and Wales that exemplify excellence in British-Indian cuisine.

Leading the accolades is Raval Indian Brasserie & Bar in Newcastle–Gateshead, awarded the Guide’s highest distinction as the National Champion for 2025. This award underscores the region’s leadership in contemporary Indian gastronomy. Alongside Prithvi, Nutmeg in Bristol was also named a South West regional winner, reinforcing the area’s reputation for fine Indian dining.

Since opening its doors in February 2012, Prithvi has become a cornerstone of Gloucestershire’s culinary scene. Renowned for its contemporary take on Indian dishes and exceptional service, the restaurant has consistently attracted patrons seeking a refined, gourmet experience. In 2023, Prithvi further enhanced its offering with the introduction of a special private dining room, providing an exclusive atmosphere for intimate gatherings.

The AA describes Prithvi as “a refined and intimate neighbourhood restaurant with decadent interiors and private dining options next to the upstairs bar,” a testament to its sophisticated ambiance and high standards.

The editors of the British Indian Good Food Guide emphasize the cultural significance of Indian cuisine across the UK, stating, “Indian cuisine is woven into British life. Excellence belongs in every region, not just the capital.” With more than 10,000 Indian restaurants serving a cuisine enjoyed by nearly 90% of Britons annually, these establishments contribute billions to the UK economy and remain a vital part of the country’s cultural identity.

In addition to Prithvi’s recognition, the Guide spotlights several other leading restaurants across the UK’s regions, from London icons like Cinnamon Club and Gymkhana to regional champions such as Opheem in the Midlands and Dishoom in Manchester.
