Cheltenham Town’s promising 17-year-old forward Sopuruchukwu Obieri is preparing to further his development through a loan move to Gloucester City.
Having already featured in all three of Cheltenham’s pre-season friendlies, Obieri made a notable impact by scoring in the 4–1 victory over Bishop’s Cleeve on July 4. The Gloucester-born forward first made headlines in November 2023 when he became the youngest player in Cheltenham Town’s history. At just 15 years and 303 days, Obieri debuted as a substitute in an EFL Trophy match against West Ham United Under-21s at Whaddon Road, surpassing the previous record held by Cameron Walters.
Last season, Obieri gained valuable experience on loan at Hungerford Town and Worcester City, concluding the campaign with Worcester City as they secured promotion from the Northern Premier League Midland Division. Now, he is set to continue his progression at Southern League Premier South side Gloucester City, a club eager to rebound after their recent play-off final defeat.
