Jake Evans, the talented winger on loan to Cheltenham Town from Leicester City, is being tipped for a bright future by Dan Holman, one of the club’s most prolific finishers in recent years.
Holman, who netted 16 goals in his first 18 appearances for the Robins and played a significant role in their National League title success during the 2015/16 season, has been closely involved with Evans since the young player was just 13 years old.
Having worked with Evans since his early teens, Holman was instrumental in advising him to join Cheltenham this summer on a season-long loan, sharing insights about the club, its passionate supporters, the local area, and the ambitions of manager Steve Cotterill.

Holman explained, “I told Jake about the club, the fans, the area, and that the manager really wanted him. I said when a manager wants you, you should go there! It’s fantastic to see both the team and Jake get off to such a positive start this season.”
Evans continues to impress on the pitch, scoring twice in Cheltenham’s thrilling 3-2 victory over York City. This brought his tally to three goals and one assist in just four League Two appearances, underscoring his importance to Cotterill’s squad.
Beyond regular club training, the 18-year-old dedicates extra time working with Holman through his coaching business, Goalman Football, which specialises in honing the skills of forwards. The pair initially connected through Jake’s father, Joe.
Holman recalls, “After finishing my playing career at Torquay, I was starting coaching sessions in Northampton where Jake’s dad was training. He came to me and said Jake was a decent player at Leicester and wanted some coaching. The following week, Jake showed up – a small but fierce 13-year-old with a left foot like a wand. We’ve been working together ever since.”
Their work extends beyond physical training, encompassing mindset and other aspects of Evans' development, tailored around his busy schedule.
Holman is confident about Evans' potential, saying, “He’s a great player and a great lad. As long as he keeps performing, the sky’s the limit for him.”
Cheltenham Town will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare to host Grimsby Town in a League Two match this Saturday, with kick-off at 3pm.
