Cheltenham Town is preparing to welcome James Watts as its new managing director, a role recently created to support the club’s ambitious growth plans.
Watts will be joining from fellow League Two side Swindon Town, where he currently serves as chief commercial officer. His extensive experience also includes roles as general manager at Hereford FC and commercial manager at Newport County AFC.
Having joined Swindon in 2022, Watts is set to begin his tenure at Cheltenham’s Whaddon Road stadium in June. The club announced the vacancy in April, emphasizing the need for a dynamic managing director to help drive their ongoing expansion efforts.

This appointment follows the departure of the club’s head of commercial operations, Linton Brown, who left in March after nearly two years. Since then, Luke Saunders has taken up the position of commercial manager, while additional commercial staff, including a new commercial executive, marketing manager, and media assistant, have been added recently.
With these strategic staffing changes, Cheltenham Town aims to strengthen its off-field management and continue building a robust foundation for future success.
