Cheltenham Town has confirmed that defenders James Wilson and Robbie Cundy have both activated appearance-based clauses in their contracts, resulting in automatic extensions for the 2025/26 season.
James Wilson, 37, who joined the Robins from Bristol Rovers last summer, has been an ever-present figure and captain throughout the campaign, featuring in 46 matches. Wilson has a history with Cheltenham, having had a loan spell in 2013 during his time with Bristol City.
Robbie Cundy, 28, arrived from Notts County in July but initially found it challenging to secure his place in the squad. His fortunes changed after coming on at half-time during Cheltenham’s dominant 6-2 FA Cup victory against Buxton in December. From that point, Cundy cemented his role alongside Wilson as part of Steve Cotterill’s preferred centre-back pairing. Unfortunately, he missed the final games of the season due to injury, with MK Dons loanee Sam Sherring covering his absence in the last three matches.

Manager Steve Cotterill is scheduled to meet with all players at the club’s training ground this Monday. Meanwhile, the club’s six loan players—Sherring, Player of the Year Isaac Hutchinson, Harry Ashfield, Cole Deeming, Josh Davison, and Mo Faal—have departed after the recent match against Colchester United, though they are welcome to return for further discussions.
Several players are either already under contract or have been offered new deals. Goalkeeping coach/player Joe Day, Jake Bickerstaff, Sopuruchukwu Obieri, and Mamadou Diallo remain on contract. Freddy Willcox and Harry Tustin have been offered new one-year deals. Tom King and Cameron Walters have been released, while second-year scholar Mark Barber, a promising left-footed defender, has been offered professional terms.
The club has also announced a list of players whose contracts have expired, including Tommy Backwell, Scot Bennett, Ryan Broom, George Harmon, Arkell Jude-Boyd, Josh Martin, George Miller, George Nurse, Ben Stevenson, Jordan Thomas, Jonathan Tomkinson, and Luke Young.
