Cheltenham’s Highland Road will be closed for resurfacing from 9:30 am on Friday, May 8, through Thursday, May 14, excluding the weekend. The closure will cover not only Highland Road, located just off Sandy Lane, but will also extend along Parkland Road, Littledown Road, and Southfield Approach near the Cheltenham Tag Rugby Club at the Old Patesians RFC ground.
The closure will be enforced daily between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm, with no vehicular traffic permitted within the designated zone during these hours. Residents who typically park along these roads will need to find alternative parking arrangements. However, pedestrian access to properties within the closure area will remain available.
To assist drivers, a diversion route is set up beginning at the junction of Highland Road and Sandy Lane, proceeding to the Greenhills Road roundabout, then along Charlton Lane and Old Bath Road, finally reaching Everest Road which connects to the opposite end of the closure.

According to a letter sent to residents by the Highways team, the temporary traffic order for the closure has been made under Sections 14, 15 & 16 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended). The team explained that the road closure covers a wider area than the resurfacing site to allow for the safe movement and placement of machinery and materials.
Though acknowledging the inconvenience, the Highways team emphasizes the necessity of the closure to safeguard both residents and workers. They have scheduled the work to minimize disruption and ensure a swift completion.
