Cheltenham is set for a temporary road closure as essential resurfacing work takes place. Starting at 9:30 AM this Friday, May 8, Highland Road and surrounding streets will be closed during daytime hours for five days, allowing crews to improve the road surface.
The full closure covers Highland Road, near Sandy Lane, and stretches along Parkland Road, Littledown Road, and Southfield Approach, reaching up to the entrance of Cheltenham Tag Rugby Club at the Old Patesians RFC ground. Closures will be in effect each day from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM until Thursday, May 14, but will be lifted over the weekend.
No vehicles will be permitted in the closure zone during working hours, and residents who usually park in the area are asked to find alternative parking arrangements. Pedestrian access to properties within the affected zone will remain open throughout the project.

Drivers are advised to follow a diversion route starting from the Highland Road and Sandy Lane junction, proceeding to the Greenhills Road roundabout, then along Charlton Lane, Old Bath Road, and Everest Road, which reconnects to the other side of the closure.
Cheltenham’s Highways team emphasized safety as the top priority, explaining in a recent letter that the temporary road closure is necessary to protect both residents and workers. They noted that the closure area exceeds the resurfacing zone to accommodate machinery and materials safely. The work schedule has been arranged to minimise inconvenience and ensure the project is completed as swiftly as possible.
