Cheltenham Murder Investigation Continues After Elderly Man Dies Following Assault

Two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, initially arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with an April 8 assault in Cheltenham, have been released on bail after the victim’s subsequent death.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 pm on Honeybourne Way. According to Gloucestershire Police, the suspects were first seen on the Millennium Bridge throwing a large branch at a passing cyclist—who was unharmed. Shortly thereafter, the two boys encountered a 73-year-old man on Honeybourne Way. An exchange took place before one of the teenagers punched the man, causing him to fall.

Emergency services quickly responded and transported the victim to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his death on April 10. Following the victim’s passing, the suspects were rearrested on suspicion of murder. However, both have since been released on bail as the investigation continues.
